Nepal Sambat is the national lunar calendar of Nepal and a proud symbol of our cultural heritage. It was introduced in 879 AD by Shankhadhar Sakhwa, a great philanthropist who freed the people of Kathmandu from debt and gifted them a new era of freedom and dignity. Recognized as an official national calendar of Nepal, Nepal Sambat reflects the identity, unity, and history of the Newar community and the entire nation.
Every year, Nepal Sambat Diwas is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. Colorful rallies, traditional music, dances, and cultural programs mark the occasion, showcasing Nepal’s rich traditions and values. It is a day of pride where people come together to honor their ancestors, remember the legacy of Shankhadhar Sakhwa, and promote harmony among all communities.
At Sanskar Gurukul, we celebrate Nepal Sambat 1143 Diwas to help our students connect with Nepal’s cultural roots, understand the importance of national identity, and appreciate the diverse heritage of our country. Through educational sessions, cultural displays, and student participation, we aim to instill respect for traditions and inspire the younger generation to carry forward this legacy with pride.
